MISSION

Powertown is deploying commercial and Industrial battery storage faster than ever before. Our goal is to stitch resilience into our electric grid by delivering easy, tangible value to a paying customer. The grid needs us: there’s a reason everyone is talking about energy / battery storage. This is the time to create value and shape markets.

What the product actually is: Powertown is not a hardware company; it is an engine for rapidly deployable distributed power. The physical battery is the medium, but the product is the platform that allows energy assets to be moved, integrated, and monetized at the speed of logistics rather than construction.

We are seeing long into the future of market shaping. We are very clear on where we start, and where we end. Thus, we are all about quality of execution. Here’s why we want to build this for the next 30 years:

  1. “Climate tech” will soon be called resilience tech/bad infra tech. Our built environment is in deep trouble. Decarbonizing takes on new value starting now.

  2. We believe that if you give a human a clear, rooted mission, they will chase it at full capacity. And they will win. America deserves mission-driven companies that are engines for good.

  3. Our market opportunity, the battery storage space, is worth trillions. We are early.

FOUNDER THESIS

WE ARE ENERGY AND ELECTRICITY-OBSESSED PEOPLE. EVERYTHING WE DO IS ROOTED IN MISSION, OUTCOME, AND LONGEVITY

We are two Harvard students deep in the energy and electricity world. From research,  jobs, and American expeditions, we derived a patriotic (resilience), value-based perspective on the energy transition. 

We went full-time this summer to build the foundation. We’ve hit milestones, received top incubator offers, built a network of world-class advisors, and gained enough demand to bring the right people on board. Our first battery deploys this winter. The next year will be our most intense yet. We have architected the company so that with the right team, we’ll win.

WHAT YOU SOLVE TO GET US THERE

BE THE TECHNICAL MIND RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING AND OWNING A TRILLION DOLLAR MARKET

Powertown converts batteries from static, one-off projects into circulating infrastructure. The same asset can serve multiple sites per year and multiple markets over its lifetime, compounding utilization and compressing payback. That model is software enabled and does not exist anywhere else in the distributed energy market today. You will build the stack that makes us scale.

This is a high-ownership role that requires what is, essentially, a hunger to build the “Uber/Palantir” for fast BESS deployment. Every new deployment needs to improve models automatically. Working on this solution requires aggressive inventiveness to achieve outcomes: if you are looking for simple instructions and a paved road, you should not build Powertown with us. 

This stack is core because it:

  1. Defines our success in delivering value to paying customers.

  2. Dictates our success in operations and profitability

  3. Breaks down complicated, fragmented data to allow critical infrastructure to scale at the scale of software for the first time ever.

We’ve built the physical, regulatory, financial, and operational foundations, but scaling this vision demands a winning technical stack for logistics intelligence. Our engine must make Powertown’s battery storage deployments fast, reliable, and bankable.

QUALIFICATIONS THAT WILL HELP GET TO OUTCOMES FASTER

  • You are craving a career-defining challenge: If you are looking for something comfortable, do not build Powertown with us. 

  • Engineering experience in data platforms, APIs, or SaaS workflows / strong proficiency in building and deploying full-stack applications.

  • Experience building secure, maintainable, and observable production code.

  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

  • Proven ability to move fast in early-stage environments.

  • PREFERRED: Prior experience with energy, fintech, or logistics systems.

  • Experience with workflow orchestration, forecasting libraries, or telemetry integrations.

  • Strong intuition for turning messy data into productized outputs.

  • Ability and desire to build a team.

  • You have integrity and are mission-aligned: If you are driven by your ego and have a hard time working with others, you should not build Powertown with us. 

  • You want to build a generational company with young people: If you feel uninspired or reduced by working with young people, you should not build Powertown with us.
